Self-Help Center

The Superior Court has family law and non-family law self-help centers to assist persons who represent themselves in court. There is no income eligibility requirement to use these services. They are available to all members of the community.

Family Law Self-Help Center / Family Law Facilitator's (FLF) Office

Family Law Self-Help Center / Family Law Facilitator's (FLF) Office:

Family Law refers to dissolution (divorce), legal separation, child custody and visitation disputes, child and spousal support, property and debt division and restraining orders. The Family Law Self Help Center, also known as the Family Law Facilitator's (FLF) Office, is staffed by the Family Law Facilitator, attorneys, administrative staff and volunteers. You may receive help in selecting and completing the appropriate forms, with information regarding the status of your case, and general legal information regarding all aspects of family law and procedure. The FLF Office/Center cannot represent you or assist those currently represented by an attorney. FLF staff cannot be responsible for the outcome of your case and your conference with FLF staff is not confidential.

Family Law Facilitator - Walk-In Assistance:

Services are provided on a "first-come first-served" basis and is limited to the first 40 persons each day. Interpreters cannot be guaranteed. Those in need of an interpreter should provide their own. FLF staff cannot complete forms for you. Those who cannot read or write in English should also have someone accompany them so they may help you complete forms.

Ventura:  The Ventura Family Law Self-Help Center is located at the Ventura Courthouse, 800 South Victoria Avenue, on the third floor, in Room 30 outside of the family law courts.

Oxnard:  The Oxnard Family Law Self-Help Center is located in the Juvenile Courthouse at 4353 E. Vineyard Avenue, Room 206, in Oxnard (El Rio). For recorded information, please call (805) 289-8733.

Family Law Facilitator - Internet Services (FLF):

Interactive on-line assistance is available through the Family Law Facilitator - Internet Services (FLF-IS) program. With the FLF-IS program, you can register for an interactive video workshop or conference, e-mail questions to Family Law Facilitator (FLF) staff, use forms-completion programs and have court forms e-mailed to you. In the video workshops, the Facilitator will provide information on how to fill out court forms, review completed forms, and explain court process and procedures.

At this time, the FLF Internet Service is available for first time filings on:

  • Divorce
  • Legal Separation
  • Nullity
  • Termination of a Domestic Partnership
  • Establishing Parentage

Please click on FLF-Internet Services to begin the process. A FLF staff member will contact you within two business days with instructions on how to proceed. When utilizing the FLF-IS, please remember to include a valid e-mail address. In order to correctly use and complete court forms, you will also need Adobe Reader.
