Certain juvenile records may be expunged after five years have passed,
or after the juvenile reaches the age of majority. In order to have a juvenile record
expunged, a petition must be filed in the Superior court. Expungement of a juvenile record
is governed by section 389 of the California Welfare and Institutions Code. Persons
wishing to see if their record is eligible for expungement should read the criteria in the
code, which can be found in the law library, or in the Ventura Courts Self-help Legal
Access Center.
